HSTDV Hyper-sonic Vehicle The New Horizon of Atma Nirbhar Bharat.

On Monday 7th September 2020 India successfully test flighted Hyper-sonic Technology Demonstrator Vehicle (HSTDV) from APJ Abdul Kalam Launch Complex at Wheeler Island in Balasore, Odisha.


HSTDV is powered by Supersonic Combusting Ramjet Engine or Scramjet Engine. It is developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). HSTDV is not a weapon but now India has the capacity to develop a Hyper-sonic missile with Scramjet technology, target is to reach Mach 6 at an altitude of 32.5 km.

HSTDV vehicle was launched using a solid rocket motor. HSTDV was monitored by various Tracking Radars, Telemetry Stations and Electro-Optical Systems.

Presently Scramjet combustor is of 520 kg, it has cleared 4 static tests for the 20 second nearly, 2 km/s a duration at Mach 2.25.

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh and Secretary Department of Defence R&D and Chairman DRDO Dr G Satheesh Reddy congratulated DRDO’s Scientists, Researchers and other persons on this great achievement. DRDO complete the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Atma nirbhar Bharat”. India proud of DRDO’s Scientists for this project.

Now India has become the fourth country after US, Russia and China to enter hyper-sonic missile club.
